The Cultural Heritage Organization was established on January 30, 1985, by law. Based on this law, the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education was authorized to form the Cultural Heritage Organization by merging 11 separate units from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. This law was approved in the Iranian Parliament on February 10, 1985, and ratified by the Guardian Council on February 12, 1985.
